Strickland Names Former House Member  Logan to Head ODNR
Former Rep. Sean Logan, a Columbiana County commissioner, was named by Governor-elect Ted Strickland on Tuesday to serve as director of the Department of Natural Resources.

 No Lamprey problems in Lake Erie
 I don't know about you guys but I frequently catch fish that look like these below or their wounds are scared over. The fish on the right will be floating down the river soon is my guess after infections setup, Kelly Reason, Fisheries Extension Program Coordinator with Ohio State University's Sea Grant College Program, tells me the Lamprey is a very fast swimmer and attaches like a Leach to fish that have smaller scales. Because of this you don't usually  see wounds on Carp, Walleye, etc.

Coast Guard seeks comments on Loran system

On January 8 the US Coast Guard and Dept of Transportation, in conjunction with the Homeland Security Department, asked for public input in the Federal Register on whether to shut down the 24-station Loran system operated by the Coast Guard, or to develop a fully deployed enhanced Loran (eLoran) system that could serve as a GPS backup..................

February 22, 2007 Eastside Membership Meeting
 Note: This meeting is upstairs at the Ampol Club.


This month's speaker comes from Michigan and needs no introduction to Steelheaders. Come meet and listen to author and guide Matt Supinski who is one of the nations premier steelhead / salmon fly fishing experts. 


Matt has written several books: 
Steelhead Dreams,The Orvis Pocket Guide to Great Lakes Salmon and Steelhead and Pere Marquette River Journal Series

In addition, his photography and articles have appeared in numerous fly fishing publications.

He and his wife Laurie are the proprietors of Gray Drake Lodge and Fly Fishing Outfitters in Michigan on the Muskegon River.
 

Fishing License Expires
Your Ohio Fishing License expires February 28, 2007. OCBS Officer
Frank Simoncic will have fishing license equipment for you to purchase your 2007 license.  Frank's service will be available at February's membership meetings only.

Grand River Tackel Big Fish Contest Leader Board

OCBS member Larry Rice is the current leader of the Grand River Big Fish Contest with 736 points squeezing  Ken Harper out of 1st place and moving Nate Willams further down the list. I'm told, Larry caught this  13# 7oz 32 1/2 male while fishing for the first time on Rocky River. Nice hat Larry! ..... I meant Fish!

Also, OCBS thanks Grand River Tackle for their generous $600 donation from their 4th annual Snoopy Contest to the Ken Mantkowski Handicap Memorial fishing day. Please remember this is  annual event and if you have never participated  it's a great time including a wonderful picnic. All proceeds from this event are donated to this memorial.  Thanks Kelly and Bruce!
 

Erie Outfitters Has Moved

Our new location is 5404 Lake Rd about 400 yards east of our  old location (picture) next door to a pizza shop. Anyone in the area stop in and grab a hot cup of coffee and check it out. We have a lot of space and are bringing in  new products over the next few weeks to fill it up. Craig.......
