The third annual Friends of Conneaut Creek clean up
Saturday May 12, 2007

Please try to attend and give something back to the fishery we all enjoy. OCBS is trying to support this clean up with as many members as possible. We need to support organizations such as Friend of Conneaut Creek who are working to improve access for fishermen and others who enjoy the creek.

The meeting place for registration is the pavilion at the CLYO (Conneaut Local Youth Organization) park at Center Street (The Ball Diamonds) at 8:30 am. Groups will split up at 9:00 am, clean several creek side properties and return to the park after 2-3 hours.

Tee-shirts will be provided to the first 100 volunteers so be sure to get there early to assure you get a shirt. A free lunch will be served after the clean up is completed. Gloves and Trash Bags will be provided.  Volunteers are asked to dress accordingly (Long Pants, Sturdy shoes, Heavy Long Sleeve Shirts, etc.).

If you would like to car pool with other club members or have any questions, please call either Jeff Liskay 440-734-7098, Tom Blotzer 216-701-4227 or Joe Moravec at 216-475-6209.

Members Only on River Seminar
Despite the high water several member attended this event. The short program was presented by Less Ober, Monte Casey and Dave Esner. Groups were formed and everyone went to the river to practice and fish were caught despite the river conditions.

Joe Moravec caught this beauty.

Through the Eyes of  the True Steelheader

Only the diehards can appreciate these times, when you own the river and there is no one else insite. The fish don't mind, they still bite. If you fished the day before Easter you would have experienced this setting as did John Rhoades and Jeff Liskey. View Photos

 Steelheaders News!

Summer Break
Spring is over which means we have completed another season of steelheading signified by the completion of our last Membership meeting held on March 29, 2007. OCBS would like to thank its membership for their support during 2006-2007. Without you! there would be no OCBS. We would like to thank all of our sponsors and a special thanks to our Tournament Sponsors; Rodmaker Shoppe and Grand River Tackle for their generosity.

As Fall approaches we will start the 2007-2008 season and resume our club's Membership meetings. Your Officers and Board members will continue working throughout the Summer planning out the upcoming new season. Again we plan to have a great lineup of speakers, activities and events for you.  Until then have a safe Summer and we will see you in the fall.

OCBS Donates $300 to Help Improve Stream Access
OCBS donated $300 to The Friends of Conneaut Creek (TFOCC) to Help Improve Stream Access. TFOCC in conjunction with several other organizations have been awarded a $600,000 grant to purchase about 80 acres of property on the creek both of which will be open to the public. The grant will also provide for the protection of another 40 acres of ecologically valuable creek side land through a conservation easement. The two properties to be acquired will be owned and administrated by the Ashtabula Metroparks.

The grant awarded is short of funding the entire project and TFOCC are currently trying to raise about $15,000 so the project can be completed. Any help in the form of a membership or donation that you can provide will e greatly appreciated.

OCBS Donates $1,000 each to Lake Metroparks and Cleveland Metroparks for Trout Stocking
Lake County Metroparks matched the donation and used the money to stock Paine Creek with catchable trout in April.

Cleveland Metroparks stocked catchable trout in Mill steam in Strongsville in March and April.

OCBS Fly Tournament Series Winner - Nate Williams
These events presented anglers with what has become normal tournament conditions. Most anglers ended up in ditches as the water was high and off color in the main river systems.

When it was all said and done, Nate Williams wins the Fly Tournament Series. Nate ended up with a four fish total of 120.25 inches to win the overall.

Congratulations Nate!

Grand River Tackle is our tournament sponsor for this year's fly tournaments. Thank you for your generosity.
