Snoopy on the rivers:

Dave Adams Jr. caught a 26-inch steelhead trout to win the annual Snoopy Contest for steelheaders last Sunday morning. Hosted by Grand River Tackle in Fairport Harbor, the contest challenged fishermen to catch a big trout with a plastic children's spincast rod and reel.

Zebco discontinued the Snoopy line, so this year's anglers had a choice between Barbie, Disney Princess, Dora the Explorer and SpongeBob SquarePants fishing combos. Adams nailed his trout with a Barbie rod and reel.

Adams won a $50 gift certificate from Grand River Tackle owner Bruce Dickerson, who doubled the entry fees and sent $560 to Ohio Central Basin Steelheaders, a club dedicated to the protection and promotion of steelhead.

Grand River Tackle has also begun its 14th Steelhead Big Fish Contest, which runs through March 13. Entry is $10.
