OCBS Conservation Funds      
The Ohio Central Basin Steelheaders are an active Northeast Ohio Fishing Club that supports Northeast Ohio's fishing activities. We support many different organizations.  Support can be through direct financial contributions or by the donation of time by our members. The funds we raise and donate are from Ohio, and stay in Ohio. The list below indicates some of our activities over the last few years.

OCBS will donate $80, for each child of a current member, to attend a three day fishing camp presented by Junior Anglers of Ohio. This camp offers a variety of fishing programs and activities including lure making, rod building, and fishing.            
             
Chagrin River Watershed (Daniels Park Flow Gauge)    $    250  $    250  $    250        
OCBS donates $250 each year to Chagrin River Watershed Group which is used for the direct maintenance costs associated with the Chagrin River Flow Gauge located at Daniel's Park.            
             
Citizens for Lake Metroparks        $    500        
Supported fund raiser for passage of Lake Metroparks levy in spring of 2006.            
             
Michael Bennett Fund    $    200  $    500          
Michael Bennett also known as Dr. Steelhead lost his battle with cancer. His family and friends started this memorial fund in his name for the improvement and enhancement of Steelhead Fishing in Northeast Ohio. The fund has grown over the last few years and now exceeds $2,000.            
             
Rocky River Fishing Fund          $      1,500    $ 1,500  
Cleveland Metroparks Fishing Fund helps provide rewarding fishing experience to Northeast Ohio anglers. This is done by stocking fish, supporting children's fishing derbies, and creation and restoration of essential habitat in the ponds, lakes, and rivers within Cleveland Metroparks. Aslo, contributed $500.00 to update the Rocky River Flow gauge, which will be available on the internet at the begining of the 2006-2007 Steelhead season.

OCBS financially supports different Lake Metroparks Kid's Fishing events throughout the year. Club members also volunteer their time to help man these different events.

OCBS financially supports different Cleveland Metroparks Kid's Fishing events throughout the year. Club members also volunteer their time to help man these different events.            
             
Handicapped Fishing Day(Ken Mantkowski)      $    300          
Ken was another long time member who was taken from us way too early. Ken spent his life helping and supporting handicapped people. He started this event, which after his passing bares his name. We are happy to support humanitarian activities such as this. Grand River Tackle has donated $400.00 the last two years to support this great project.              
               
Rocky River Watershed Council      $    300  $    400        
OCBS donates funds to the Rocky River Watershed Council to be used to help fund the annual Rocky River Watershed Festival. The money helps fund the Kid's Fishing Derby, lure making supplies, and other supplies for educational outreach programs.

OCBS annually donates $500 towards the Aquatic Sciences Scholarship for students attending summer courses at the Stone Lab. The scholarship targets students from Ohio Universities who are majoring in Fisheries Science or some other aquatic science major.                
                 
US Div. Of Wildlife- Cold Water Fish Culture Class.    $ 1,000  $ 3,500          
OCBS invested $3,500 for the Ohio Division of Wildlife Hatchery employees to attend a Coldwater Fish Culture class presented by the US Fish and Wildlife Service. The class will have positive effects on Ohio's Steelhead and Trout programs far into the future.            
             
Youth Outdoors - SEA CAMP - 1 student tuition            $         370    $    370    
OCBS paid for one student to attend the Youth Outdoors Sea Camp. The camp was held at Kelly's Island from June 26 - 30, 2006.  Camp activities include fishing, lure making, powerboat safety, island geology, weather forecasting, and water safety to name a few.

League of Ohio Sportsman: Dedicated to supporting conservation, restoration, and education that promotes the wise use and enjoyment of our natural resources including sound wildlife management. They are the Ohio affiliate of the National Wildlife Federation.

Northcoast Sportsfishing Council is a watchdog organization primarily concerned with sportfishing and water quality of Lake Erie as well as the rest of the Great Lakes.

The Friends of Conneaut Creek is a non-profit organization dedicated to education and environmental stewardship to preserve and restore the Conneaut Creek watershed for current and future generations.

GLSFC is a confederation of organizations and individuals who share a concern for the present and future of sport fishing, our natural stocked resources and the ecosystem in which we live.

OTHER OCBS PROJECTS          
           
Working with the ODNR and other clubs to have Conneaut Creek designated as a wild and scenic river.          
         
Financially supported the purchase of land rights in the Grand River Watershed helping assure continued access and preventing development.          
         
Conduct on stream steelheading seminars each Spring and Fall in conjunction with the Lake County Metro Parks.          
         
Annually clean up the Grand River in conjunction with the Lake County Metro Parks. Clean-ups of other Ohio tributaries are being planned.          
         
Financially supported the purchase of land surrounding Spring Brook, a head water tributary of the Chagrin River which will hopefully help the last native, wild Ohio Brook Trout in existence survive.          
         
Planted willow posts on the banks of the Rocky River as a stream bank stabilization project.          
         
Purchased water testing lab equipment for the Cuyahoga County Board of Health to monitor and improve Rocky River water quality.          
         
OCBS supported and planned the Northeast Ohio Steelhead Summit in November, 1999 in conjunction with Lake Metro Parks and five other clubs.          
         
Camp Friendship (Kids with Cancer) Fishing Program: Members attend a week long summer camp for a few hours each day to help the kids enjoy a day of fishing. OCBS financially sponsors one child to attend the camp.
