River Conservation Links

Clean water flowing through our rivers is critical to having a quality steelhead fishery in Ohio. OCBS supports all efforts to clean up and protect our rivers and streams. We support efforts to:

•  Reduce the contaminant levels in all fish, from the lowest organisms in the food chain to the steelhead, salmon and walleyes at the top.

• Reduce the amount of non-point source pollution entering our rivers. People need to take proper care to process their household and agricultural wastes so it does not end up in the rivers and lakes.

• Reduce the amount of sediment entering the rivers from erosion.

Center for Great Lakes Environmental Education	The Center leads awareness of and access to information about Great Lakes environmental subjects by promoting learning links for teachers, students and other stakeholders in the international Great Lakes-St. Lawrence basin ecosystem.
Chagrin River Land Conservancy	Chagrin River Land Conservancy is a private, nonprofit conservation organization that works with landowners to preserve the scenic beauty, rural character and natural resources of the Chagrin River watershed.  Founded by, funded by, led by, and inspired by landowners, CRLC serves landowners and communities by preserving land to ensure the high quality of life afforded by the Chagrin River watershed.  The group was founded in 1987 and has protected 3,780 acres so far.
Chagrin River Watershed Partners	The Chagrin River Watershed Partners, Inc. (CRWP),  is a nonprofit organization located in Willoughby, OH. The CRWP will strive to preserve and enhance the scenic and environmental quality of the ecosystem of the Chagrin River and its watershed in a manner that assures a sustainable future for people, plants and animals.

Environmental Information at Earthsystems.org	Earthsystems.org is a non-profit  organization expressly dedicated to the advancement of environmental information and education to the world community. They develop, compile, categorize, and deliver environmental education and information resources using leading electronic technologies
Great Lakes Commission	The Great Lakes Commission is a bi-national agency that promotes the orderly, integrated and comprehensive development, use and conservation of the water and related natural resources of the Great Lakes basin and St. Lawrence River. Its members include the eight Great Lakes states with associate member status for the Canadian provinces of Ontario and Québec.
Great Lakes Science Center - USGS	The Great Lakes Science Center is dedicated to providing scientific information for the management of our nation's biological resources. The Center is headquartered in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and has biological stations and research vessels located throughout the Great Lakes Basin.
NOACA Northeast Ohio Areawide Coordinating Agency	The Northeast Ohio Areawide Coordinating agency is the federally designated Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for five counties of Northeast Ohio, which include Greater Cleveland and the Lorain area.  Its chief functions are to perform long- and short-range transportation planning, transportation-related air quality planning, and areawide water quality management planning, as defined by federal and Ohio mandates.

Rivers Unlimited	Rivers Unlimited works to help river groups and individuals in Ohio protect and restore their streams.  They have worked on over 160 projects in 50 counties in Ohio, have accomplished  much on the Ohio River, and have experience in most Ohio river issues.  Rivers Unlimited is  the oldest state-wide river protection group  in the nation, founded in 1972, at a time when rivers were covetously regarded by dam builders and channelizers.
The America National River Cleanup Week - Outdoors® Association	National River Cleanup Week traditionally occurs during the second or third week of May each year. It was originally conceived in 1991 by America Outdoors® in response to a recognition that America's streams and rivers were in need of cleaning due to the careless disposal of trash and other debris.
